As a member of the 2021 Bands of America Honor Band in the Rose Parade teaching faculty, you will have the opportunity to teach an ensemble of 300+ students that will perform in America’s New Year Celebration® - the Rose Parade! It's not often that we have the opportunity to participate in an event that’s taken place annually since 1890.
Once selected, staff members will be contracted staff with Music for All for 19 months. In addition to working with students in all rehearsals, each member of the staff plays an integral part of the planning process. All members of the Honor Band in the Rose Parade Staff will be expected to assist in the promotion of the Honor Band and recruitment of students. From the beginning, staff members will be responsible for listening to and providing feedback, for each application that is submitted for their assigned section. Student Applications are open from May 1, 2019 – January 15, 2020. Student evaluation will take place as applications are submitted, as we are accepting students as rolling admission. Additional recruiting will take place through 2020 in order to fill instrumental spots in the ensemble, as needed.
Once a student is accepted into the ensemble, they will submit two playing assignments containing music that will be performed in the parade. The staff will use online software to evaluate all submissions and provide commentary for their assigned section.
Staff members are expected to arrive in Los Angeles, no later than 4p.m., on Saturday December 26, 2020, and stay through all events and performances through Saturday January 2, 2021. You may leave on Saturday 1/2/2021 if you do not wish to participate in the optional theme park day.
*Please Note: Percussion Faculty are expected to be in Indianapolis for a Percussion Rehearsal/Performance weekend prior to arrival in Los Angeles. During the week of Grand Nationals, November 12-14, 2020, the Honor Band Drumline will rehearse for their debut performance, which will take place Saturday night, November 14, at the conclusion of the Bands of America Grand National Championships during the awards ceremony. Each member of the drumline is required to attend to maintain good status in the ensemble, and it is important that all percussion staff are also available.
Due to the travel and teaching requirement over the holidays, several packages and trip options for spouses/significant others and children will be available for purchase. More information about these options will be available upon completion of the faculty application.
Faculty and staff positions are decided through applications that can be completed online.
