Lynda Hasseler, Capital University, OH, and Jason Max Ferdinand, Oakwood University, AL, will serve on the artistic panel for the 2019 National Choir Festival, March 14-16 in Indianapolis.

In these days of political, personal and spiritual disintegration, music is not a luxury but a necessity, not just because it is the universal language, but because it is the persistent focus of our intelligence, our aspirations, and our good will.’ Though written many years ago, Robert Shaw’s words speak directly to the struggles of our current culture. Never have we needed music more. The work of Music for All to create, provide, and expand positively life-changing experiences through music is precisely what we need to inspire us to reach across the differences that divide and alienate us from one another. I am honored and excited to be serving this dynamic organization and making music with the many talented young musicians who will be participating in the 2019 National Festival! Together we will focus our intelligence, our aspirations, and our good will - and make the world a better place!” –Lynda Hasseler

After providing feedback to festival applicants during blind listening, Lynda Hasseler spoke to young leaders at 2018 Summer Symposium about working together to destigmatize mental illness and to support those who are battling depression and thoughts of suicide. The Oakwood Aeolians under the direction of Jason Max Ferdinand provided a moving guest choir performance for participants of the premiere National Choir Festival. Hear the Aeolians in rehearsal here:

“My initial festival experience with Music for All was mind blowing. It renewed my faith in music advocacy and music education. The world needs more music. Music for All is helping to better lives and in so doing, making the world a better place. I cannot wait for the 2019 festival!” –Jason Max Ferdinand

Music for All is grateful that weather conditions allowed completion of nine of 25 scheduled performances during the Preliminary Competition at the Bands of America Regional at Waco, TX. Due to heavy rain, lightning, and a tornado watch in the area, the remaining prelims performances and all of finals were canceled. This decision was made in consultation with participating directors after carefully monitoring weather conditions with the aid of local authorities and the National Weather Service. We would like to thank all involved in ensuring the safety of band members, spectators, and staff during the weather emergency.

The overriding ticketing policy for Music for All/Bands of America events is that tickets are “non-refundable.” Nevertheless, where extraordinary circumstances, like severe weather, cause the cancellation of all or a substantial portion of an event, Music for All has established refund polices for that event and offered full or partial refunds as appropriate.
We request that our patrons note that the costs of the event (stadium rental, stadium personnel, judges’ fees and other expenses) were still incurred and paid by Music for All. We invite you to consider donating the value of your refund to help offset these expenses. Thank you in advance if you choose to donate the value of your refund. We will provide you with an acknowledgement of your charitable contribution.
Following are Music for All’s policies concerning ticket refunds for the 2018 Waco Regional:

Cooperative Tickets (issued to bands) - No refund

Humans of BOA: Katie Cantor

KatieCantor resize

North Canton Hoover H.S., OH yearbook photographer Katie Cantor is spending her weekend with the the Viking Marching Band at the Northeast Ohio Regional Championship and she is loving it. “I love it because I love the music. I get to be there and experience it and I absolutely enjoy the shows they put on. I also have a lot of friends in band,” says Katie. She even started going to football games just to take pictures of the marching band.

What makes this weekend even more special for Katie is that her older brother, Sam Cantor of Music for All, is the Event Manager of this regional. The Bands of America world is a small one to say the least. “There’s something amazing about the opportunity to facilitate an activity that you’re so passionate about, to see your alma mater and to share it with family on the field at the same time,” says Sam. And he couldn’t be more proud of his sister.

As a sophomore, this is Katie’s first year in yearbook and she’s widely involved in other extracurricular activities including track, mock trial, Quidditch Club, and leadership. She’s also an aspiring lawyer, who one day hopes to attend the University of Michigan Law School. We couldn’t be happier to have a lifelong supporter of music education and someone who is so passionate about sharing it with others.
