The one-hundred and tenth installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!
Name: Kelsey Zetzl
Hometown: Hagerstown, IN
School Name: Hagerstown Jr Sr High School
What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
I was attracted by the chance to march in such a well-known parade, in addition to visiting Disneyland (I'm a huge Disney fan).
What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I think the Disneyland performance will be cool, I'm excited to see what that's like.
What are three things you've learned from being involved in band?
I've learned the importance of preparation, I've developed dedication, and I've grown to persevere.
Most memorable moment in band?
The fun pep band nights or rehearsals spent with friends, when we laugh so hard our abs are sore. They all melt together in my mind, but those vague memories always make me happy.
Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
I'm a part of Peer Helping, National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, Prevention Using Student Help (PUSH), History and Math Academic Teams, and Model Legislature.
What's your favorite book?
I don't like to pick favorites, but I enjoy reading anything Science Fiction or Fantasy. Classics are also fun to read.
What's your favorite song or piece of music?
I don't pick favorites because I love all music, but I really enjoy orchestral and concert band music. I especially like John Williams and Stephen Melillo's compositions.
Can't choose; something Fantasy or Science Fiction
Favorite ice cream flavor?
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
What's your current plan for what you want to do after graduating high school?
I want to double major in music performance and math education at an undecided college.
Have you participated in MFA/BOA events before? Which ones?
No, I have not previously been a part of a MFA/BOA event.
Tell us something interesting/unique about you:
I got to perform a concerto as a soloist with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, after winning the Richmond Symphony Orchestra's Young Artist Competition.
