L.J. Hancock Summer Symposium Scholarships
Deadline for Application May 7, 2012

The L.J. Hancock Summer Symposium Scholarship Fund was created in honor of L.J. Hancock (1952-2002) to celebrate his life and work as a great educator and a beloved friend. The scholarship fund benefits individual students who are interested in attending the Summer Symposium but do not have financial means or due to hardship cannot afford to pay the tuition and fees needed to apply and attend this annual summer music camp.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need. It is the intent of the Music for All Foundation to provide scholarships of at least $100 but not more than $270. Our hope is the scholarship program will help to ensure that the Summer Symposium is financially accessible for every student.

In order to reserve space for applicants until scholarship applications can be evaluated, the camp application form needs to be submitted to Music for All. Scholarship recipients will be required to pay the remainder of the tuition necessary to attend camp in advance.

Indianapolis Public Schools Summer Symposium Scholarships

The application deadline for the Indianapolis Public Schools Summer Symposium Scholarships is closed. Please check back in the spring for 2012 scholarship information.

Each year the generosity of individual and corporate donors allows MFA to extend the opportunity to attend MFA’s Summer Symposium to IPS students through full scholarships.

Any student who applies for the IPS Summer Symposium Scholarships must:

  • Currently be active in an IPS-sponsored high school music ensemble
  • Complete volunteer hours approved by a supervisor OR submit a $50.00 non-refundable deposit
  • Attend the current year’s Summer Symposium
  • Write a thank you letter to donors for providing the experience
  • Participate in the current year’s IPS Summer Band Camp
  • Participate in an IPS-sponsored music ensemble during the subsequent academic year

IPS students who attend the MFA Summer Symposium are expected to be role models for all students in IPS music education programs and to strive to help others receive positively life-changing experiences through music.

Recipients are chosen by the staff and faculty of IPS Instrumental Music Programs.  Contact Keith White, Indianapolis Public Schools District Director of Instrumental Music, for more information.

Help send students to the Summer Symposium by donating to the L.J. Hancock Summer Symposium Scholarship Fund or the Indianapolis Public Schools Summer Symposium Scholarship Fund. You can donate online or call the Music for All Development Department at 800-848-2263 for more information.
