Music for All’s Bands of America Grand National Championships, presented by Yamaha is the nation’s most exciting marching band event. First and foremost, Grand Nationals is an educational performance opportunity open to all high school bands, on a first-come, first-served basis. Grand Nationals is also a spectacular music and pageantry event, one that band fans from across the nation and around the world travel to for the exciting and creative performances.

The Grand National Championships is a three-day, Preliminary, Semi-Finals, Finals event, held in Lucas Oil Stadium, one of the world’s premier indoor venues. Bands receive recorded evaluation from panels of leading educators and marching experts, along with written scoresheets. Forty-five bands perform in each of the two separate Prelims contests, balanced with like numbers of bands from each class. Thirty bands then advance to Semi-Finals with a formula that ensures inclusion of representatives of each of the four classes and the top scoring bands from the two separate Prelims contests and the overall event. (See Procedures and Adjudication Handbook for specifics.) The top 12 scoring bands from Semi- Finals, regardless of class, advance to Saturday evening’s finals.

Indianapolis Marching Band Tournament

Music for All’s Bands of America kicks off the Grand National Championships by hosting the Indianapolis Marching Band Tournament presented by Yamaha, with the support of the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the City of Indianapolis.

Formerly known as the Indianapolis Public Schools Marching Band Tournament, the Indianapolis Marching Band Tournament is designed to serve students who attend schools or reside in the Indianapolis community. Music for All has placed our roots in Indianapolis because we want to be an active participant in the local arts.


Expo with more than 100 booths

America’s largest and most prestigious national marching band event invites you to join our growing list of exhibitors. Exhibits are located on the street level concourse of Lucas Oil Stadium and are easily accessible to the more than 85,000 attendees, including 12,000+ student performers from across the country who attend the three-day event.

There’s nothing that compares to being there to cheer on your band, but those who cannot be there in person can still enjoy the 2014 Bands of America Grand National Championships online. Thursday and Friday Prelims, Saturday Semi-Finals and Finals will all be webcast live at musicforall.org. The Live Webcast is available for subscribers and as pay-per-view.
