About Sophie Rinehart

Sophie Grace Rinehart, 17, of Newburgh, IN, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016, along with her father, David Gary Rinehart, and grandmother, Ruth Ann Rinehart. She was born October 25, 1999, in Evansville, IN, to Lucinda Rinehart and David Rinehart.

Sophie was a junior at Castle High School, where she was a member of the marching band and show choir. Her love for music drove her to excel in all aspects of performance. Even at her young age, Sophie was consumed by the power of music and never missed a moment to connect to people through music. She recognized that was her life’s purpose and was committed to sharing her talents with others. Hours before she passed away, she had moved tens of thousands of people at the finals of – and watching live online – the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. As a vocal and flute soloist, she was a featured performer of the Castle High School Marching Bands’ 2016 performance, a first time as a Finalist in Grand Nationals. Admirers across America were shocked and saddened to learn of her death, with her and her father and grandmother, just hours after that performance.
