Less than three weeks remain in our fiscal year
The activity around the campaign has certainly moved to the next level.
I want to thank all who have made contributions, and encourage all those sitting on the sidelines to step in the game at any level.
The participation of the masses is critical. Let me tell you what has occurred in the last week.
Wednesday, I traveled to northern Atlanta's Cobb County where I met with 15 directors and several booster representatives at the first of several scheduled town hall meetings.
On Thursday, another 13 directors and several local booster reps came together for a town meeting at Music for All headquarters in Indianapolis.
The stories and conversations shared with me following these meetings are worth sharing with you.
- I heard about a student testimonial, shared with fellow band members during band class, that generated $960 in donations in one day.
- I received a call from one of our teachers just needing to share that she was watching her kids sit on the floor and count "change" that had been collected by the drum line, winds and auxiliary sections. In 2 weeks almost $1,500 was raised.
- After one town hall meeting, a band director called to say that seniors asked the school principal if the $2,000 anticipated proceeds from their annual "Senior Talent Show" could be donated to the BOA Alumni Campaign.
- A booster club who raises funds by working concession stands at an NBA Basketball Franchise facility committed one weekend's proceeds (approx. $1,500) to the BOA Alumni Campaign.
- Students at another school organize by band sections and raise over $1,000 in one short week.
- A parent and business owner announces a $1,000 challenge gift to fellow parents.
I cannot begin to tell you how humbled I am when I hear these stories. Today, more than ever, I understand the lasting impact of our mission. In light of the current economic climate, people are banding together to ensure that the Bands of America tradition continues.
I will be conducting two more town hall meetings. The first will occur on Friday in San Antonio, Texas, during the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. Another meeting will take place next Tuesday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
For those interested in specifics, excerpts from various meetings will be posted on the website.
Thanks to a huge discount from our friends at Fed-Ex, we sent a request for support along with a means to utilize a new fundraiser, PULLanthropy, to 200 BOA schools.
Congratulations!
- BOA Alumni from Marian Catholic High School who raised over $10,000 and advanced to the Star Level.

- To four schools more than half way to the Founding Alumni Chapter Level: Centerville, OH; Walton, GA; Victor J. Andrew, IL; and Carmel, IN.
