Jazz Education Network is Launched!
The Jazz Education Network (JEN) newly formed on June 1st.
The association will be focused on advancing and expanding jazz education, jazz performance opportunities and jazz audiences.
More than 35 leaders from the jazz education community and its affiliated industries, including Music for All executives and board members, gathered in suburban Chicago to discuss the need for an organization geared to serve professionals and students in the jazz education field.

Gayl W. Doster Named Chairman of Music for All Board of Directors
Gayl W. Doster has been named Chairman of the Board of Directors of Music for All, Inc., Indianapolis' second-largest performing arts not-for-profit and one of the nation's biggest and most influential music education organizations.
Doster joined the board in 2007 after serving on the finance committee of the organization since 2006.
Doster is the retired President and Chief Operating Officer of Brooks Drug, Inc.
He is a graduate of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
While at Indiana University, he was a member of the Marching Hundred and numerous other musical organizations.
He is presently Vice President of the Fine Arts Society of Indianapolis.

Apply for openings in these sections: Trumpets, Trombones and Flags.

The deadline for nominations is September 15, 2008.
All current, active parents, boosters and supporters of any scholastic music education program are eligible for nomination (do not have to be affiliated with BOA or MFA).
Former or inactive parents, boosters and supporters of Bands of America and/or Music for All participating programs may also be nominated.
This award celebrates the support, involvement and contributions parents and boosters make to the advancement and success of a scholastic music education program.

In 1992, our school was starting its fifth year of existence.
We felt that we were improving as a band program and wanted to challenge ourselves to achieve even higher standards, so we entered the Bands of America Southeast Regional Championships.
Imagine our surprise when we were named the 1st place group in our first ever BOA activity!
It was a true honor just to be among the fine bands present and to achieve such a high status really motivated the program to continue the journey to excellence.

Music for All Names New Vice President of Finance
Nancy Hill Carlson has been named Vice President of Finance for Music for All, Inc.
Carlson joined Music for All as Chief Financial Officer in January 2008.
She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Evansville in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree, and from the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University in 1985 with a Masters in Business Administration.
Prior to joining Music for All, Carlson held positions as Finance Director at WellPoint, Inc., Finance Account Executive, Anthem, Inc., and Controller, Key Benefit Administrators, Inc.

Raise funds for your music program with "From The 50 Yard Line" Benefit Screenings
"From The 50 Yard Line," the entertaining new award winning marching band and instrumental music education documentary featuring BOA events, has gained audience praise and critical acclaim on the Festival Circuit.
It is also becoming an advocacy piece for the arts in schools, and is being embraced by the music community.
In addition to Festivals, the film is being shown at Benefit Screenings at schools where half the ticket proceeds go directly to the program(s) hosting the show - or their beneficiaries - and the other half goes to the charitable group set up by the producers to help finance the project and help music programs.

Yamaha Sounds of Summer
The Yamaha Sounds of Summer (SOS) program is a series of percussion experiences across the country with Yamaha's renowned percussion artists.
The SOS camps are intended for percussionists grades 7 - 12 looking for a complete marching percussion training.
The National Percussion Symposium at the Music for All Summer Symposium is an extended Yamaha Sounds of Summer experience.

New Deadline: Aug. 8! Now open to middle school students!
Middle School musicians can now take part in Finding the Groove, a "YouTube" for musical kids where they can post and share their musical stories on a safe network designed for them.
In addition to being a great place for students to share their own music videos and ideas about music, a handful of those kids who submit the most exciting videos online will be chosen to be part of the Finding the Groove concert series.
