WITHIN OUR POWER REPORT - What People Are Saying:
Newspapers and editorial boards are all hailing Music for All's report, Within Our Power.
Here are just a few excerpts of what people are saying:
"Let us hope that the arts census project report will serve as both a measuring stick, a look at what state schools are doing right, as well as an impetus toward improving, particularly in the more neglected areas of theater and dance."
- Schools study reveals state's successes, shortcomings (Herald News Editorial)
"The coalition is to be commended for checking on compliance with the state's standards and trying to improve arts education."
- Arts education is lagging in public schools (The Record)
"This data is so good and so accurate, and the methodology so deep and broad, that the host of thoughtful recommendations included in the report should be considered among the most educated statements that have ever been made in our field."
- Top of their game (Americans for the Arts)
"Astounding!"
- Andrew Taylor, ArtsJournal

From The Campaign Trail
"What we seem to say to young people is: 'You're worthy if you're a great athlete. Or you're worthy if you're a great student. But if your talent is in music, painting, whatever, then that's somehow less valuable.'
Exactly the opposite is true. That's extraordinarily valuable to America and to what people will remember about us."
- Presidential Candidate John Edwards
"To retain this critical education element, I will invest up to $500 million in arts and music education programs."
- Presidential Candidate Bill Richardson
"I tend to think that one of the greatest mistakes in the past generation has been that many school districts cut their budgets in music and art programs and in doing so they've done one of the dumbest things that can ever be done.
A true music and art education is not just extra-curricular...it is essential."
- Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee
Q & A with This Month's MFA Network Member Spotlight: Michael Bui
Michael Bui, 22, Angleton, Texas, first joined the MFA Network in the Fall of 2000 (then the BOA Network).
"At first, I joined the network just to look up BOA results and to learn what BOA was all about, but I ended up making life-long friends."
We asked Michael to tell us more about himself and his experience with MFA and BOA.
What do you enjoy about being a Music for All Network member?
I enjoy the interaction with other music lovers.
Being a member has helped me expand my knowledge of the musical and marching band world, as well as get to know other students from programs (and band fans) across the country.
