MakeMusic, Inc. Partners
with Music for All
MakeMusic, Inc. has joined forces with Music for All, Inc. (MFA) in our mission to support music and the arts in education. MakeMusic's corporate sponsorship represents MFA's first partnership agreement since the September 2006 merger of Bands of America and the Music for All Foundation. MFA is one of the largest and most influential national music education organizations in support of active music-making.
At the core of this partnership is MakeMusic's SmartMusic - learning software for students of all levels in band, orchestra and choir. Equipped with more than 30,000 accompaniments, 50,000 skill-building exercises and recording capabilities, students play or sing their part with accompaniment and receive, in real-time on the computer, detailed feedback on their performance. Beginning in spring 2007, student musicians auditioning for MFA's honor ensembles including the Honor Band and Honor Orchestra of America will use SmartMusic as an audition tool and receive a 90-day trial subscription and a SmartMusic microphone. Those students placing in the ensembles will receive a one-year subscription to the program. Additionally, students participating in the MFA Summer Symposium concert, jazz and orchestral tracks will also receive a 90-day trial and microphone.

New Gear Charity Auction to
Benefit Music for All in January
The Music Player family of publications and a host of top musical instrument manufacturers have joined together to create the 2007 New Gear Charity Auction benefiting Music for All. The charity auction will be hosted on eBay using the eBay Giving Works program, January 18 through January 28, 2007 online, and will feature more than 40 items valued at $75,000. Proceeds from the sales will be used to support the mission of Music for All to create, provide and expand positively life-changing experiences through music for all.
A variety of guitars, drums, winds, keyboards and accessories are up for bid. See the incredible list of participating companies. Several of the instruments featured on eBay will be making their worldwide debuts at the NAMM show.
You do not need to bid on an item to help. Individuals are encouraged to post their own items on eBay to benefit the Music for All using the eBay Giving Works program. Individual sellers may designate a portion or all of the final sale price to Music for All, or they may make a donation online. Visit Music for All's page to learn how to get involved!

Do You Live in One of the Best 100 Communities for Music Education in America?
January 23 is the deadline for online submissions to enter the 2007 Best 100 Communities for Music Education Survey national assessment. The information you provide will be used to determine the best places in the country for young people to get a quality start in music, and to gain an understanding of the current state of music education in elementary and secondary schools.
Although this is chiefly an informational project, in its first six years the survey has had a direct, constructive effect in many communities. Many "Best 100" educators say that their status on the list carried weight in the next year's budget deliberations, and contributed to the preservation of their programs.

New: Middle School/Young Teacher Track at the Summer Symposium
The Summer Symposium's new Middle School/Young Teacher Track is designed to deliver a curriculum that will arm middle school teachers and young music educators with the tools they need to provide their students with a positively life-changing experience. The "typical" model for middle schools in America is a 3-year program (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) Ironically, three years is also the typical career lifespan for young music educators. Most recent studies show that America is on the verge of a major shortage of qualified music educators. Through a three-year curriculum, Bands of America's Middle School/Young Teacher Track at the Summer Symposium will provide a "hands-on" education that will prepare young teachers to thrive, rather than just survive!
Who Should Attend? Experienced Middle School Teachers Looking for a Fresh Approach and New Ideas, New Teachers, Young Teachers and High School Teachers Looking to Create a Unified Philosophy with your Feeder Program.
