Music for All Joins with GRAMMY Award Winner Tom Chapin to promote new song "Not on the Test" and to Sound the Alarm for Music Education

Not on the Test In celebration of Music and Arts in Our Schools Month, Music for All has joined with GRAMMY Award-winner Tom Chapin to support the launch and nationwide distribution of the "Not on the Test" song and video. The song will raise awareness about the importance of music education in all classrooms and express concern about what is missing from American public education. As a kid who grew up in New York City, Tom Chapin is a great fan of America's public education. He attended P.S. 46 in Greenwich Village, P.S. 8 in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn Technical High School and S.U.N.Y. Plattsburgh.

"It was the music and arts programs that kept me in school. These enrichment courses that make the experience for both teachers and students more rewarding are the very ones that are being cut from curriculums across the country," he said. "In an age where an increasing number of American jobs are being outsourced to other countries, why is American public education discouraging creativity?," Chapin questioned. "Now is the time to encourage 'out-of-the-box' thinking in the classroom. I am happy to join forces with Music for All to work toward our common goal of ensuring every child has music as a part of their basic education."

"Often times humor can be the most powerful way to communicate. Tom's song is brilliant for the way it captures the reality, and absurdity, of the testing frenzy facing many of our young people today in a clear, compelling, and funny way. This song needs to be shared with everyone and anyone who cares about the future of our nation and we are happy to join with Tom and do our part to help make that happen," stated Music for All's Bob Morrison.

Here's how you can get involved:
  1. Download the song and share it with your friends
  2. Post the video to your own websites and blogs.
  3. Listen to Bob Morrison's interview with Tom Chapin available March 17.
  4. Send us your stories about how testing has impacted your programs.
