RE:Fall 2000 Rulebook Changes

The Bands of America General Effect Music and General Effect Visual judging sheets have been revised to serve as a better tool for evaluation. It is important to realize that the philosophical approach to each of these captions has not changed, but the design has been changed to focus each of the sheets on their original intent. The Bands of America Advisory Committee met to discuss and revise the sheets at the Summer Symposium. This committee with input from other directors proposed the changes. It was felt that the Music GE sheet in particular contained phrases that were not directly music specific. Therefore, more appropriate phrasing was developed. There are now two subcaptions of 100 points. On both GE sheets coordination has been incorporated into the Effectiveness of Repertoire subcaption. Phrases have been slightly changed to focus the Music General Effect sheet more on the music and the Visual General Effect sheet more on the visual. Although this has always been the intent of the sheets, the phrases seemed a bit ambiguous and confusing. We hope that these changes will serve as a better tool for judges and instructors for communication and evaluation.
