2008 IPS Marching Band Tournament presented by Yamaha and Sharp Business Systems
Congratulations to Broad Ripple High School - 2008 IPS Marching Band Tournament Champion and Brighthouse Spirit Award winner!
Bands of America kicks off the Grand National Championships by hosting the IPS Marching Band Tournament presented by Yamaha and Sharp Business Systems, with the support of the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the City of Indianapolis.
"This is a way that we can extend our resources to IPS band program students and teachers to celebrate and recognize the achievements of these students and showcase them in Indianapolis' finest stadium facility as a part of the Bands of America Grand National Championships," says Scott McCormick, Music for All President and CEO.
BOA has provided the venue to IPS at no cost to the school system and will continue to host the event at Lucas Oil Stadium.
"We're committed to supporting the growth and development of band and music education at IPS and using resources already in place to provide a world class venue for the Tournament is one way to show its commitment," says McCormick.
2008 Brighthouse Spirit Award
In an effort to increase awareness of music education, the IPS Marching Band Tournament Spirit Award was created.
Spectators are judged on their school spirit by a celebrity panel of judges, and the winning school receives a trophy and a $1,000 scholarship to be used for the school's music program.
Celebrity Spirit Award judges have included former Deputy Mayor of Indianapolis, Steve Campbell; Indiana Black Expo's Joyce Rogers; Circle City Classic's Tony Mason and many others!
Judging is based on four criteria: Pride, which includes cheers, banners, signs, painted faces and school color representation; Sportsmanship; Noise level (produced by a school's fans when its band is participating) and Attendance.
