About the National Concert Band Festival
Since its debut in 1992, the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival has been acknowledged
as one of the premier educational events for America's high school concert bands. The Festival's mission
is to focus a national spotlight on the core of our nation's band
programs, the concert band.

The Festival is a celebration of musical excellence: non-competitive events that combine
world-class performance and evaluation opportunities with an exhilarating atmosphere of camaraderie
in music.
What sets the National Concert Band Festival apart from other festivals?
The non-competitive atmosphere provides a place for growth, cooperative encouragement and mutual
respect among band programs, students, parents, boosters and administrators.
Directors select their own programs, there is no required repertoire. There are no ratings or
rankings, so directors and their ensembles are free to stretch themselves, reaching for new heights,
striving for innovation, growth and excellence, instead of focusing on a rating or placing.
Participating students experience an atmosphere of mutual respect for their peers while enjoying
concerts from other outstanding ensembles. Participants adhere to a dress code and code of conduct
that enhances the world-class atmosphere of the Festival. Ensembles that perform at the Festival are
generally recognized as being among the finest in the nation. Participation is a "credential" worth
having. Plus, directors have cited the preparation for the Festival-both musically and in personal
conduct-as a bonus positive effect for their program.
The Audition Process
The National Concert Band Festival audition process is a tool you
can use to take your program to the next level. All auditioning bands
receive taped and written critiques from the evaluation panel of esteemed educators. The tape
listening is "blind"-ensembles are only identified to evaluators by number.
Requirements for Application
Application consists of the completed Application Form submitted with the audition tape or CD and
application fee. The application fee is $250 for bands.
Submission of your application is a commitment to attend and perform if accepted (unless you select
the "Input Only" box on your application).
