MUSIC REQUIREMENTS (for wind instrumentalists)
Trumpet
Trumpet players should have the skill to cover any trumpet part in the ensemble. These players
should also have a strong understanding of both classical and jazz styles and have the skill to change
styles quickly. Those players with extreme range capabilities (lead players are expected to play
consistent double F-A), the ability to play various trumpets (piccolo, flugel, etc.), and advanced
improvisational skills will be given special consideration. Extreme consistency coupled with an
ability to play at a high level while marching and executing expressive movement is essential.
Experience in marching band and/or drum corps are not mandatory but strongly encouraged.
Musical Requirements for Trumpet:
- 2 solos (or 2 movements from a single solo) of your choice which are of contrasting styles on
your primary instrument. These selections should feature your musical ability and
technical facility. A classical and jazz piece would work very well. Accompanied solos are
acceptable with video auditions only.
- If you have a secondary instrument, please provide a short etude or solo of your choice showing your skills.
Mellophone
Mellophone players should have the skill to cover any mellophone part in the ensemble, and also
have the ability to be the only mellophone in the ensemble. These players should also have a strong
understanding of both classical and jazz styles and have the skill to change styles quickly. Those who
have the ability to double other brass instruments, percussion instruments, keyboards, etc. will be
given special consideration. Extreme consistency coupled with an ability to play at a high level while
marching and executing expressive movement is essential. Experience in marching band and/or
drum corps are not mandatory but strongly encouraged.

- 2 solos (or 2 movements from a single solo) of your choice which are of contrasting styles on

Trombone

change styles quickly. Players may be asked to perform on euphonium and/or marching baritone,
therefore, finger dexterity is essential. Those who possess improvisational skills will be given special
consideration. Extreme consistency coupled with an ability to play at a high level while marching
and executing expressive movement is essential. Experience in marching band and/or drum corps
are not mandatory but strongly encouraged.

Tuba
Tubists should possess a strong understanding of various styles, a consistent sound throughout the
range of the instrument (pedal to high range), and extreme control of tempo and pitch. This is
extremely important because there will only be one tuba player in the ensemble. Tuba players must
demonstrate excellent control of the instrument while moving and performing on a Yamaha
sousaphone. Extreme consistency coupled with an ability to play at a high level while marching and
executing expressive movement is essential. Experience in marching band and/or drum corps are
not mandatory but strongly encouraged.

Saxophone
The player should demonstrate a high level of skill on their primary instrument and an accomplished
facility on all other instruments in the saxophone family (soprano, alto, tenor, and bari). They should
possess a strong understanding of various styles especially in the area of jazz & those who have
advanced improvisational skills will be given special consideration. Extreme consistency coupled
with an ability to play at a high level while marching and executing expressive movement is essential.
Experience in marching band and/or drum corps are not mandatory but strongly encouraged.

- 2 solos (or 2 movements from a single solo) of your choice which are of contrasting styles on
your primary instrument. These selections should feature your musical ability and

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (for all cast members)
In addition to the specific requirements previously outlined, please be certain the following is included when you submit your audition materials:
- A completed and signed audition application with an attached 5x7 photograph.
- A letter of recommendation from your current ensemble director, instrumental teacher, or ensemble administrator confirming your qualifications.
This recommendation should include the director/teacher/administrator's address, telephone number, and signature.
- A one-page resume or summary of your musical/educational/theatrical experience.

MUSIC REQUIREMENTS (for percussionists)
Percussion positions in INergy include Drum Kit and General Percussionist. Those applicants
demonstrating proficiency on more than one instrument will be given special consideration.
Drum Kit
Drum Kit players are expected to be well versed in various styles including, but not limited to, swing,
top 40, samba, bop, shuffle, salsa, and rock. Consistent tempo, whether playing time or soloing is
essential. Understanding and fluidity within compound time signatures and odd meter is needed.
Strong double kick chops and the ability to play to a click track or take time from other
locations/musicians are also required.
Musical Requirements for Drum Kit:
- Play time in various styles and tempi including swing, bop, samba, shuffle, and rock.
- In each style above play time/solo/time in the format of 4 bars/4 bars/4 bars
- (not required but recommended) If possible, include on your audition video footage of you playing within a rhythm section or band (any style)
General Percussionist
A percussionist in INergy should have a strong understanding of various styles and should be skilled in the areas of rudimental, orchestral, contemporary multiple percussion, and pop percussion styles.
Players should have the skill to play rudimentals at no less than an intermediate level.
Experience with collegiate level indoor/outdoor battery percussion, WGI indoor or drum and bugle corps is not mandatory but strongly encouraged.
Players should be proficient with four mallet keyboard technique, have a strong understanding of all instruments in the orchestral and band families, and have some experience with hand drumming.
Extreme consistency coupled with an ability to play at a high level while executing expressive movement is essential to participating in the ensemble.
VIDEO AUDITIONS
All applicants who submit an audition video should do so in either DVD or VHS format (DVD preferred).
Editing of the overall audition presentation is acceptable (scene changes, chapters, etc.), however any edits to actual audition materials will result in immediate rejection of the entire audition.
Please carefully review the requirements above.
In addition to demonstrating an ability to perform/entertain, be sure to include in your audition materials the specific requirements outlined above that apply to your area of interest.
Those applicants demonstrating multiple skills will be given special consideration.
VOCAL REQUIREMENTS
In terms of vocal production, applicants should possess vocal skills that are consistent and at a proficient level.
MOVEMENT REQUIREMENTS
Movement plays a major role in every INergy performance.
Applicants should have experience performing drill, body movements, and dancing while playing their instrument.
Additional skills in color guard (flag, rifle, saber, props), various dance styles and other performance-related talents are a plus and will be taken into consideration.
PHYSICAL HEALTH
Performers in INergy will have physically and mentally demanding responsibilities.
As such, performers must be capable of performing the musical and movement responsibilities described above.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Prospective INergy members need to possess the attributes of a strong and confident music educator.
The main focus of the ensemble will be on aiding existing band programs and helping create future musicians through inspiring Indianapolis youth to pick up an instrument.
Prospective INergy members need to also possess the attributes of a great performer.
